At-Risk Youth and Family Services

Inner city youth learn computer game design in Kevin Clark's CEHD class

The greatest risks for youth today is the growing problem of gang violence, drugs, poverty, the lack of role models, and peer pressure. Both boys and girls are becoming involved in delinquency and high-risk behaviors at younger ages. Once involved in juvenile delinquency behaviors, children are two to three times more likely to become serious, violent ,and chronic offenders. One of the best ways to eliminate or at least alleviate this is to intervene with youth at an early age.

Get Out the Box has developed mentoring programs for at-risk youth and their parents to promote positive peer relationships through adult role models thus improving relationships, school performance, communication skills and lifelong goals, and ultimately steering their lives in a better direction.
